Four years following Cowboy Dan's Sentimental Now That We're Leaving EP, the Tāmaki Makaurau collective reemerge with eleven sparkling and assured new songs, bundled together as Dreams That Feel Like Falling. Balancing from-the-heart poetic reflections with power-pop / college rock oomph and a jangly love for melody reminiscent at times of R.E.M (a refreshingly rare touchstone at the moment) and such fabled Flying Nun combos as The Bats and J.P.S.E, their debut album feels lovingly crafted and joyously executed. Unafraid to mix it up, Cowboy Dan bust out a post-punk ruckus on their snappy 'Whole Thing 'round' and the fuzzily chugging 'See Through Trees', even venturing into pensive slowcore zones on 'Interstate'.
