Listen to Martin Sagadin's Debut Album 'Martin Iz Zgornje Bele'
Directorial partner with Aldous Harding for an iconic run of music videos (amongst standout collaborations with Marlon Williams, The Bats, and more), Martin Sagadin today shares a visionary musical statement of their own. Born in Slovenia and calling Aotearoa home for nearly two decades, Martin Iz Zgornje Bele is Sagadin's debut album as a solo songwriter, a contemplative and intimate avant-folk song cycle, sung entirely in their native Slovenian language.
Martin Sagadin with producer Brook Singer (French For Rabbits) craft a sparse, time-warping personal space in which every element carries significant weight. Sagadin's fragile yet remarkably expressive vocal lilt — escalating to impassioned caterwaul and plummeting to deeply moving sob on seven plus minute tentpole track 'Ne Boj Se/Pokaži mi' — is bolstered by instrumental contributions from Ben Lemi (Trinity Roots), Xanthe Rook (Recitals), Liz Stokes (The Beths), and Charlotte Forrester (Womb). Delicate in delivery and emotionally shattering on impact, listen up to Martin Iz Zgornje Bele (named after the village the artist grew up in) and join Sagadin for a special run of release shows, commencing this evening at Ōtautahi's Flying Nun store...
