Striding into 2026 following the release of their Glass Souls EP — hailed by ourselves as "a fuzz-scorched four song interzone of alt-rock / post-punk / shoegaze shimmer" — Erase Everything have invited Naarm darkwave practitioner Spiritual Slum aka Paul Bond to reimagine their anthem 'New Year New Idea'. Entangling listeners in a club-rattling web of EBM pulses, pounding percussion and crypt-like chorus reverberations, 'New Year New Idea (Spiritual Slum Remix)' is an on-point primer for Erase Everything's set at Gathering Shadows festival this Friday at Te Whanganui-a-Tara's Valhalla. Repping a strong local connection, Spiritual Slum's latest album Luminous Spheres is "inspired by Love, Loss and Infomercials from New Zealand in the '90s," and the artist also contributed to Kazakhstan dungeon synth maestro Warlock Corpse's recent Eternal Prisoner (which coincidentally I was listening to last week).

"The chorus for me was the part I wanted to pay homage to with the haunting backing vocals. I also loved the swirling guitars which I wanted to keep. Then I used Elektron gear for the beat and the classic Roland Alpha Juno and Ensoniq ESQ (my usual go to’s) for everything else. Once I got the master back from the brilliant Morgan Wright (Acopia) I was stoked on how it sounded.
