True pioneers of Californian desert rock, Yawning Man are bounding back our way for their first tour of Aotearoa New Zealand since the dawn of this wild decade. Hailed by fellow traveller Brant Bjork as "the sickest band of all time", the La Quinta group were formed in 1986, yet they spent nearly two decades in the literal sonic wilderness before laying down their insta-classic 2005 debut album Rock Formations. Their generator parties in the Coachella Valley were a major influence on such titans of the form as Kyuss, whose cover of Yawning Man's 'Catamaran' was a standout of 1995's ...And The Circus Leaves Town.
Joined for their amp-frying southern sojourn by heavy psych voyagers The Rubber Snake Charmers featuring Sean Wheeler, Yawning Man are venturing off the central highway to play a newly announced show at Raglan's Harbour View Hotel on 12th April, with local special guests Wolf Wizard from Kirikiriroa.
