Sharp eyes would have already spotted a collaboration with Te Whanganui-a-Tara's suave songwriting star Hemi Hemingway lurking amidst the tracklist of Vera Ellen's forthcoming album Heaven Knows What Time. Repaying the favour of Ellen's contribution to Hemingway's breakout new record Wings of Desire, the talented pair reunite for 'when it's over'. Maintaining the tumbling catchiness of Ellen's laudably horny previous single 'gayfever', the pair unravel hurtful feelings while achieving sophisti-pop elegance, not unlike a windy city Nikkel and Bree.

Directed by Daniel Fletcher and made with support from NZ On Air, the video is cool too — embroiling Ellen and Hemingway in a stylishly time-warped and secretly phone-tapped relationship melodrama. Winner of the 2023 Taite Music Prize for Ideal Home Noise, Ellen's new record will be out in full on 1st May via Flying Nun Records.
