Listen to SANGUINE's New 'Paraíso' EP
Sparking soothing connections between South Pacific strum, the haunting echoes of post-Ventures surf, dubwise grooves (on closer 'Tō e la'ā e Kavaka') and sun-fried post-rock, Paraíso is a new three track instrumental collection from Noa Records "in-house Moana-fi soul band" SANGUINE. The trio formation of David Feauai-Afaese, Navakatoa Tekela-Pule and Rāhana Tito-Taylor, SANGUINE's latest offering was laid down on analogue gear in the casual setting of Tekela-Pule's Grey Lynn living room, sporting artwork by acclaimed Niuean painter John Pule.
The members of SANGUINE of course make up three quarters of niu wave pioneers LEAO, who are soon jetting off to perform at The Great Escape festival in the UK and tour Scandinavia with Tuareg desert-blues rockers Tinariwen. You can support LEAO's debut overseas adventure and enjoy their world class stage presence at a fundraiser event this Sunday at Double Whammy, where they'll be joined by Greatsouth, Motte and E.T.NO.HOME. Enrich your ears with Paraíso (not to be mixed up with Haruomi Hosono's 1978 record of the same name) and show your support this coming long weekend...
