Just Janie is the fast-rising project of Central Otago songwriter Janie Shaw, who'll be launching her debut album Mythology of the Girls with a whirlwind six date tour this May aka NZ Music Month NZ Music Month / Te Marama Puoro o Aotearoa. Treading her own trail in Aotearoa folk / country and Americana music with an assured run of singles from early 2024 onwards, the deceptively gentle-strumming title track to Just Janie's new record tears away down the veil of folk-hippy idealism — a song "about women's stories that have been swallowed by men", pondering the cult-indoctrinated violence of the Manson Girls. Also playing solo in support of fellow southern star Mim Jensen at the tail end of May, join Just Janie with band at the following dates...

Emerging as a compelling new voice Folk-rock, Janie was raised in Central Otago, writing songs beneath the Hawkdun Ranges. Stepped in the golden warmth of the sixties and seventies, Just Janie’s music is a captivating and tender menagerie of sound and story.

‘Mythology of the Girls’ marks a new era. An ode to nostalgia, the album reimagines the Laurel Canyon sound through a modern lens. Inspired by the folk scene in California's sixties and seventies, Janie began questioning the rose tinted perspective or an era that shaped the music she loved and silenced women’s voices.

Now, she brings these songs to life on stage.
