Listen to Serebii's New Single 'Nothing Grows Here'
The sonic alter-ego of songwriter / multi-instrumentalist / producer Callum Joshua Mower, Serebii's fourth studio album Nothing Grows Here will be arriving on 29th May. The Aotearoa artist again impresses with the newly revealed title track — a rhizomatic, synth-washed assemblage of skittering rhythms, dubby future-jazz flourishes, booming low end and Serebii's soulful vocal utterances, all dovetailing into an assertive, body-moving groove. All signs point towards the upcoming album release tour being a very special trio of shows, commencing at the tail end of NZ Music Month / Te Marama Puoro o Aotearoa. Immerse your ears and head along...
"The record was shaped by this central idea that nothing will grow until you leave everything.
I wanted this record to feel alive and dynamic. There’s more tension in it and more movement, but it’s still upbeat and danceable.
There’s this strange disconnect where your music can reach people all over the world, but you’re still painting roofs during the day and coming home worrying about rent. This album came out of that pressure, trying to keep making something meaningful while feeling like the ground underneath you keeps shifting."
