Sivle Talk, Sogg, U-No Juno and Vagina Dry Announce '4EPs' Release Shows
Tipping the hat to Flying Nun's landmark The Dunedin Double EP as well as Tall Dwarfs' evergreen 1994 long player, 4EPs introduces the world to a new generation of noisy southern stars. Kicking up a ruckus on Ōtepoti Dunedin's stages and beyond over the last couple of years, 4EPs brings together the distinct sonic stylings of Sivle Talk, Sogg, U-No Juno and Vagina Dry across two 12" vinyl discs. Out physically via new umbrella label DUN Records on 3rd July, 4EPs befits tradition with each act allocated one side each — spanning doom-drenched post-rock, squalling shoegaze, riot grrrl punk and more, all mastered by Angus McNaughton at Auralux.
Essentially four individual releases bound into one scene-setting, independent and collaborative collection, all boasting their own cover artworks, 4EPs features Sivle Talk's CRYBABY EP, Sogg's Freezer Thaw EP, U-No Juno's "you know" EP, and a self-titled offering from Vagina Dry.
Capturing like like lightning in a bottle the sound of a young, tightly-knit community (some featured artists are as young as 16), there are currently two ways to get your mits on 4EPs. You can preorder from Relics Music Dunedin, or / and snag a copy on the door at one of the upcoming 4EPs Release Celebration Shows, by grabbing a combined gig ticket and record presale. Both options include the opportunity to win a first edition of The Dunedin Double EP originally owned by Martin Phillipps (RIP), courtesy of the Dunedin legend's estate — who also "donated to cover the upfront costs of mastering." Head along and witness Aotearoa music history as it happens...
"This is the time where often young bands can end up in the wilderness years. With no money to release a record “properly” or tour outside of their home town, things stagnate. While a bonus of playing all of the time means Dunedin’s artists are next level in their musicianship, there is a real chance that after a bit more time of playing the same venues over and over, some of these musicians may just end up being, those people in the future reflecting on that nice time they were in a band when they were young. To prevent this from happening, to ensure these career artists stay on the path of continuing to create as they should, I decided to invite these bands to be part of a record release inspired by the 1980's classic Flying Nun release 'Dunedin Double', yes the one from more than forty years ago. (No one has done one since!) This is a four EP, double vinyl release, capturing this moment in time, and introducing these bands to a wider world." - Natasha Griffiths, DUN Records

DUN Records presents 4EPs.
An independent, collaborative release, where the bands have full
autonomy and ownership of their music.
These four bands are trail blazers in the highly active live Ōtepoti music scene of 2026: the instinctive high school trio who prove age doesn’t matter when your music is this good; the three piece who make riot grrrl sound like it comes from Dunedin; the band unafraid of 90s throwback but with a modernised local magical twist; and the prodigious one man band who makes sure others are unafraid to speak out too. Aged from 16-22 years old, inclusivity, gender diversity and fluidity runs through the bands. They speak up and sing loud about what is wrong in their and their audience’s worlds. And occasionally, what is right. They host all ages gigs in safe third spaces. They have inspired others to go to every show, or start playing music. They make sure no one feels alone.
This is just part of how much is happening in Dunedin music right now and it has parallels to the 1980s counterpart - a close knit music community, where they and their friends are exceptional visual artists as well, attention to musicianship, the enthusiastic audience, and the songs.
A fully independent (ie broke) umbrella label - DUN Records would like to acknowledge Murray Cullen at Stebbing, for believing in an ambitious project, offering a payment plan to make it possible, and continued support for the whole process.
In a touching full circle moment The Estate of Martin Phillipps donated to cover the upfront costs of mastering. And Martin’s sisters Rachel & Sara have also given us his original Dunedin Double vinyl to pass on to someone new. It has Martin’s name written on it by him, the white inner sleeve has some yellowing from age, the vinyl is perfect, it is a beautiful gift. And if you pre-order the 4EPs vinyl, you may also end up with this in your package.
