An artist who has sustained an astoundingly high quality body of work across four decades of releases (few figures who've achieved similar include Roy Montgomery and The Bats), Throwing Muses co-founder Kristin Hersh sounds possessed by inspiration on her twelfth solo album Sugar on Blackstone. Recorded with long-term creative partners Rob Ahlers (50FOOTWAVE) on drums and Pete Harvey (Throwing Muses) playing cello, intriguingly the new solo record sounds more immediate, fuller and yes more rocking than the understated intimacy of last year's Throwing Muses long player Moonlight Concessions.

Feeling both compelled and haunted by memory, Sugar on Blackstone considers "life and death, enrichment and poverty (a personal topic she's discussed with The Quietus), and the small but defining moments of childhood that continue to echo through adult life", echoing Hersh's own experiences of Providence, Rhode Island.

Always a welcome visitor to our shores, Hersh's upcoming Aotearoa New Zealand tour has proven so popular there's just been a venue upgrade and a limited amount of new tickets released for her Ōtepoti Dunedin headline date, now happening at Hanover Hall.
