Ben Ottewell & Ian Ball of Gomez (UK) - 'In Our Gun' New Zealand Tour Announced

Mercury Prize-winning co-founders of Merseyside art-rock giants Gomez, Ben Ottewell and Ian Ball will soon be touring Aotearoa New Zealand, celebrating the 25th anniversary of their 2002 classic In Our Gun. The UK pair will perform at James Hay Theatre in Christchurch, Meow Nui in Wellington and Auckland's iconic Powerstation, toasting the legacy of In Our Gun and treating attendees to a selection of "Gomez hits, favourites and deeper cuts", cherry-picked from a back catalogue spanning nearly three decades.

Gomez's third studio record, In Our Gun's adventuresome swirl of rock, blues, folk and electronica was a winning combo with fans and critics alike. The album ascended into our own NZ Top 20 Albums chart and earned rapt reviews from such early-'00s tastemakers as Popmatters and Drowned in Sound.

Since their world-conquering Gomez era, Ottewell and Ball have carved out solo oeuvres of their own. Ball has two albums under his belt and tours as a member of Aussie arthouse dance-poppers Empire of the Sun, while Ottewell has established a career in alt-country / folk, gracing three solo records thus far with his distinctive soulful raspy croon. Following their sold-out New Zealand shows in 2025, Ben Ottewell and Ian Ball return to Aotearoa in 2027 to celebrate 25 years of Gomez’s acclaimed third album, In Our Gun.

It’s been 25 years? Really?? Oh yes, it has.

The year is 2002 and Gomez are riding high. Fresh from winning the Mercury Music Prize, the British band are international touring superstars and a huge act across Australia and New Zealand. Their third album, In Our Gun, had arrived, packed with the band's distinctive mix of rock, blues, folk and electronic experimentation.

Now, a quarter of a century later, Ben Ottewell and Ian Ball are bringing that record back to life for New Zealand audiences, following their hugely popular Gomez By Request shows across Aotearoa in 2025.

The pair will celebrate In Our Gun alongside the Gomez hits, favourites and deeper cuts fans have come to expect from their famously good-time live shows. Expect Shot Shot, Detroit Swing 66, Ruff Stuff and Ping One Down, coupled with the killers Whippin’ Piccadilly, Get Myself Arrested and plenty more from across the Gomez catalogue.
