Bunchy’s Big Score & Dolly Possum - '2EPs' Release Shows Announced

Boosting a fresh generation of artists from Ōtepoti Dunedin to the number one spot on the Official Top 20 Aotearoa Albums chart, DUN Records have announced the sequel to their landmark 4EPs double LP collection. The staunchly independent imprint's second release is 2EPs, a logical progression spotlighting UTR office faves Bunchy’s Big Score and Dolly Possum, an emerging group fronted by Keira Wallace, launching on 30th October on vinyl LP and double compact disc.

That's by no means all, as both southern acts have released or are about to put out new long players, DUN Records have revealed two versions of 2EPs to choose from. The first option is Bunchy’s Big Score's Good Friends EP and Dolly Possum's Hunting EP, featured on each side of a vinyl LP disc (in the tradition of 4EPs). The double compact disc edition will be absolutely crammed with tunes, each disc featuring the groups' new EPs plus their full new / upcoming albums. Both versions feature booklets and slipcover, preorders are available from today via Relics Music, and if you preorder by 28th October you'll go in the draw to win a painting by Robert Scott!

Naturally enough there'll be a round of celebration events for this crucial contribution to the Ōtepoti Dunedin music canon — two shows in November, then two gigs in mid-January. "Like anyone else who came across it, when I heard Bunchy’s Big Score Oscar Says I couldn’t get it out of my head. Then I fell in love with the album Wanda’s Bicycle. It seems a bit mad to ask a band to make an EP while they are releasing an album. Yet EPs are an exciting capture of a moment in time. When 4EPs came up, a number of the artists were midway through or focusing on an album, they were pulled out of the zone and went into an EP land with a deadline and a group of contemporaries doing the same thing.

If those EPs hadn’t been made then songs like Skyscrapers or Redacted, There’s An FBI Office In Wellington or Ferrets wouldn’t exist. So while it seemed a little crazy, it was also, wow what will a Bunchy’s EP sound like right on the back of that band making Wanda’s Bicycle, let’s find out.

Bunchy’s were thrown in the deep end and off they went. So then I was thinking about what Keira Wallace was up to. I have known Keira since they were 13, and I have always thought of them as an extraordinary artist. I mentioned the idea to Tane (Sivle Talk/ I’m Sivle Talk’s mum/Sivle Talk is one of my creative advisors) and he said Keira’s band Dolly Possum had played a live to air on Radio One the night before and I should listen to that and also I should release that band. He was right. A reasonably new act, Dolly Possum were, yes, part way through making an album. Again, they veered off to make an EP. Again, I love EPs, they capture a moment that an album doesn’t, there is a slight chaos, and urgency, especially with generous yet firm timelines!" - Natasha Griffiths, DUN Records
