Shonen Knife 'Let's Knife Re-Cut' New Zealand Tour Supports Announced

Absolute legends of Japanese punk rock for a phenomenal 45 years and counting, Shonen Knife are touring Aotearoa New Zealand this November and you should go see them. If for some reason you require more convincing, the mega-catchy team of co-founders Naoko Yamano and Atsuko Yamano with more recent recruit Risa Kawano (who joined in 2015) have just announced all-killer local special guests for the tour.

They'll be supported at The Loons in Lyttelton by teen punk upstarts HOMESICKK? — who just unveiled their ripper debut EP and are playing at Shimane JETT Rock 'n' Roll Festival in Japan next month — Ōtepoti riot grrrls SEEK HELP! at Pearl Diver, Ōamaru rowdy rock duo GY-RO at The Penguin Club, Tāmaki sci-fi punks Memory Foam (launching their second album MF! in October) at Whammy Bar, and industrial synth-punk revolutionaries Displeasure at Meow in the capital on election day (enrol at vote.nz if you haven't done so already).

Shonen Knife shall be back on local stages celebrating the release of Let's Knife Re-Cut, featuring re-recorded tunes from their breakout 1992 album Let's Knife. Favourites of Kurt Cobain (EU tour mates Nirvana would play 'Twist Barbie' live) and Sonic Youth, Shonen Knife's hugely influential back catalogue runs deep, spanning more than two dozen studio long players. All brought to you by Susie Says!, note the final gig of the tour at Tāmaki's Whammy Bar will be an early one — to allow time for hard-working Waihekeans to catch the last ferry of the evening back home...
