Weekly Roundup: Friday 21st September

Friday 21st September, 2012 11:07AM

After the avalanche of tour announcements last week it's no surprise that things have been pretty quiet this week. Harlem's Smoke DZA was announced to be touring in November playing shows in Auckland and Wellington. There are plenty of exciting tour rumours out there though, The xx have hinted at a return visit next spring via facebook, Divine Fits could neither confirm nor deny they were heading our way in an interview we did with Dan Boeckner yesterday and we've heard talk of a tour by a highly influential 60s band.  Expect things to hot up again next week when Laneway reveal their 2013 lineup, next Wednesday 26 September at 10am to be precise.

On the local front, A Low Hum's Ian Jorgensen aka Blink is set to open a venue in Wellington on Tory Street called Puppies with the first events to be announced next week and the venue expected to open in October.  Chris Knox has been announced to make a rare live appearance with new best buds Rackets who are celebrating the release of a new video and the online release of their Could Do Better EP. In related news, Flying Nun announced the appointment of Ben Howe of Arch Hill Recordings and Laneway Festival as General Manager replacing Roger Sheppard who will now be a consultant and is still a shareholder. The label is also moving north, relocating to Auckland. In other label news, Unknown Mortal Orchestra announced this week their signing to Jagjaguar for the release of their second album - they also dropped their first single from the album. Brother Kody Nielsen was also in the news this week, receiving two nominations in the Technical Award categories of the NZ Music Awards.

And lastly,  the controversy over Amanda Palmer crowd-sourcing professional musicians after crowd-sourcing over a million dollars this year we mentioned in our last roundup has continued throughout the week with Palmer announcing in a lengthy statement on her blog that she will now be paying the musicians (sourced from Pitchfork).
