Baths Announced To Return in March

Wednesday 20th November, 2013 9:11AM

Baths has been announced to return for two New Zealand shows in March.  The project of LA based electronic musician Will Wiesenfeld, he is touring new album Obsidian released back in May. The album was inspired by a terrible illness that befell Wiesenfeld in 2011 which left him bedridden for months (read more here) and forced him to cancel his much anticipated debut visit here that year.  A recovered Wiesenfeld kept his promise to reschedule, playing to rapt crowds in November 2012 which he'll not doubt do all over again next year.  Here are the tour details....

Madcap Music presents

BATHS (ANTICON/US) – NEW ZEALAND TOUR 2014

Touring on the back of another critically acclaimed album release, ‘Obsidian’, Los Angeles based Baths returns to New Zealand for exclusive new live shows in 2014. Madcap Music presents the Baths New Zealand Tour, with shows at Bodega in Wellington on Friday 14 March, and at The Kings Arms in Auckland on Saturday 15 March. Baths has quickly established himself as one of leading lights of his generation, combining the intricate rhythms of the LA beat scene with indie sensibilities, creating music that inspires and surprises in equal doses. “The songs and lyrics all came out of a pretty fucked and arduous process of trial and error,” Baths says, of ‘Obsidian’, and this passion comes through in music of majestic power. He brings this same energy to his live performances, leaving a huge impression on audiences during his previous tour in 2012. Influential blog, Popmatters, identified the confessional nature of ‘Obsidian’, suggesting, “It’s an album about the ominous quiet of memories existing only in the moment, and an attempt to trace and destroy the ones that torture the mind”.

Inspired by many months sick in bed, unable to eat solids, and confronted by questions of his own existence, ‘Obsidian’ is understandably a dark record, with cutting lyrics, yet it is also enhanced by the warmth Baths brings to his music, which translates easily to his brilliant live performances. Fans has been eagerly waiting for this announcement, and Baths is set to thrill New Zealand audiences once gain in March 2014.

Tickets on sale Friday 22 November from www.undertheradar.co.nz, Rough Peel Music, Slow Boat Records in Wellington and Real Groovy in Auckland.
