Puppies Announces Final Shows

Wellington venue Puppies sadly announced last October it would be closing its doors for good, after being open less than two years. However, the popular bar is going out a high-note and has a huge run of shows scheduled to see out its last three months.

Owner Ian Jorgensen, known as Blink, launched the Tory Street venue as a vehicle for "a bunch experiments" within the live music scene. He says the bar became well-known for being the first venue of its kind to advertise playing times and strictly adhere to them. "Something that till then was sorely lacking in the New Zealand music scene – but much more than that, there were a ton of other just as revolutionary/ridiculous ideas happening in the background," he writes on a Kickstarter project page, where he announced plans to publish a book. Titled The problem with music in New Zealand, how we can fix it and why I started and ran Puppies, the book is inspired by Steve Albini’s legendary essay The Problem with Music and will come complete with vinyl featuring tracks from artists who have played at Puppies.
