Video: Anthonie Tonnon - Water Underground
Anthonie Tonnon is premiering the striking video for his single 'Water Underground', directed by Delphine Avril Planqueel. Speaking to US website The Wild Honey Pie, Tonnon says he gave Planqueel an open brief, encouraging her to avoid a narrative-based clip or leaning on the literal meaning of the song. "She told me she wanted to make a film about the beauty of youth and that one of her fashion models was a really kick-ass rower. How she then ended up at this beautiful and quite involved production, involving a flying drone, underwater cameras and a car wrangler is beyond me," he says.
The resulting film is centred around two listeless young women, set on the idyllic Lake Pupuke in Auckland. 'Water Undergound' is from Tonnon's first full-length solo album Successor, which is out now. Soak up the beautiful clip below...
Anthonie Tonnon is holding a vinyl release show on Sunday 7th June at Freida Margolis in Auckland. Head over here to buy tickets, which include a copy of the record to be collected at the show.
