Weekly Round Up: Friday 3rd July

Weekly Round Up: Friday 3rd July

Friday 3rd July, 2015 2:36PM

This week bought with it a strange brew of tour announcements. From RnB artist Toni Braxton announcing her first ever New Zealand show for September, to Scottish pirate metallers Alestorm declaring they were sailing back this way in November with Aussie counterparts Lagerstein to plunder eardrum in a two-town run of Piratefest. Also in the mix we had socially conscious punk rockers Rise Against laying down a date for one all-ages show in Auckland for the end of the year. American rapper Wiz Khalifa announced a headline show for September. We were excited to learn that recently reformed outfit Luna have lined up two shows on New Zealand soil. And in an ultimate country music team up, Delaney Davidon, Marlon Williams, Tami Neilson and Barry Saunders have revealed dates for what is bound to be an incredible church tour of the country.

In release news, Auckland foursome New Gum Sarn have unveiled their beautiful debut album New Gold Mountain as they hit the road for a nationwide tour. The Phoenix Foundation shared the title-track from their forthcoming album Give Up Your Dreams, due out early August. Recently-formed group Encouragement shared their second ever single, and while there is no official word we have heard whispers there is a longer release in the works. In international release news, Waaves and Cloud Nothings let loose their collab album for streaming. Aphex Twin revealed a new single from a forthcoming album under his AFX moniker. And Beach House unveiled their awesome new track 'Sparks' from their new velvet-covered album Depression Cherry, which comes out next month.

This week's Caught Live was a hard choice given the wealth of material that came out of Glastonbury, so we settled on TWO clips for this week. First up, we have the enigmatic Goat giving a dazzling performance of their single 'Hide From The Sun'...

And we couldn't go past this clip of 'Wolf Kidult Man' from The Fall which Fact Mag claimed shows Mark E. Smith pissing himself while performing. You be the judge...
