Big Day Out 2010 Transport Info

Tuesday 12th January, 2010 12:00AM

The count down is on with only 3 more sleeps to the Big Day Out - here's a bit of info about how to get yourself out there:

Bus

The Big Day Out Express Bus will leave from Real Groovy Records in Queen Street at regular intervals from 9am through to 2pm dropping off right outside the gates at the event.

Buses returning to the city will run from a dedicated Big Day Out Express bus stop clearly signposted as you leave Gate B at Mt Smart. Return buses will run from 9.30pm to approx 1.30am terminating outside the St James Theatre on Queen Street.

Tickets can be purchased at point of departure on the day of the event. Tickets are $15.00 return or $10.00 one way. Cash fares only – No concession fares or Go Rider cards accepted. After the event and regular bus services finish, Niterider buses depart between 1.00am and 3.40am with ten routes across Auckland. They depart from downtown at Lower Albert Street outside Downtown Shopping Centre and midtown outside the Civic / St James Theatres in Queen Street).

Train

Special train services will be running specifically to Penrose Station on the Southern Line from Britomart and Papakura. These services terminate at Penrose and should be used only for travel to the Big Day Out. Passengers are advised that due to track maintenance work, all other scheduled regular rail services between Britomart and Penrose are replaced by railbuses. The Western Line continues to be closed for track maintenance and all scheduled rail services are replaced by railbuses. Special Western Line railbuses (drop off only) will be provided between Britomart and Waitakere from 11.50pm to 1.50am and will depart from Britomart Stop D18 on Commerce Street (opposite the Post shop).

Ticket options: Britomart/Papakura to Penrose return $10, otherwise normal fares apply. Tickets available from: Onboard, Britomart Transport Centre, Papakura Train Station. Ticket checks will be in place at Penrose station. Late night services after the event: Regular services depart Penrose to Papakura - until 1.25am Penrose to Britomart - until 1.30am.

The Auckland rail network is undergoing maintenance at present but the Southern Line track is reopening on Friday especially for the Big Day Out to run trains between Britomart and Papakura, servicing the Penrose Station for the festival from north and south. Timetables and further information can be found at www.maxx.co.nz or by phoning 09 366-6400.

Car

There is no dedicated parking available at the stadium.  Street parking is available and businesses in the area often sell their car spaces for the day (the BDO takes not responsibility for these operators).  The easiest way to get to the stadium from the city is via the Southern Motorway exiting at Penrose then heading south via Great South Road till you see the stadium.

---

Big Day Out goers requiring wheelchair access to the event should use Gate A at Mount Smart. Big Day Out security staff can assist wheelchair patrons with access through restricted areas to reach the main arena viewing platform in front of the East Stand.
