Making Great Music for the Love of It

Making Great Music for the Love of It

Wednesday 20th September, 2006 3:58PM
Kiwi FM’s Dave Thiele is on the hunt for music makers across the nation and beyond for Voices From The Wilderness - the show that represents artists without representation.

Voices from the Wilderness is a weekly half hour radio show featuring those amateur musicians who are struggling to be heard who also have an interesting story to tell.

In New Zealand there is an abundance of amateur musicians who, for the love of it, have gone to extraordinary lengths to record their music. These artists are to be found in our cities, but also in rural areas and small towns where the chance for commercial success is both unlikely (and not a requirement) or indeed a reason for creating music. They’re also often the mainstay and major source of income for small studios, run by dedicated enthusiasts throughout the country. These recordings are almost always self-recorded or self-funded, quite often brilliant, often overlooked and we think it’s fair to say, never to be heard on radio! Not every musician feels the need to “be commercial” in order to make music their main vocation, and often juggle other commitments in their lives in order to find time to devote to their music.

The music that comes from these origins is pure in spirit and is to be admired and celebrated.

As a 100% Kiwi music station we are inspired to celebrate, nurture and promote these voices from the wilderness; songwriters, poets, engineers and musicians with quality material, possibly hidden in their bottom drawer. Kiwi considers “Voices from the Wilderness” to be the cornerstone of its commitment to New Zealand Music.

Artists can contact Kiwi FM through www.kiwifm.co.nz or send material directly to:
