Listen: Battles - Ice Cream

It's been a long time between albums for proto-rockers Battles. They released Mirrored to critical acclaim in 2007 but were pretty quiet until the end of last year when they announced with sophomore, Gloss Drop, would be coming out in 2011.
The first track from this forthcoming album was debuted by Huw Stephens on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show, and anyone who wanted a continuation of the heavy ambience of Mirrored is going to be disappointed. 'Ice Cream' is, for lack of a better word, funky. And has lyrics. It's still got that layered weirdness Battles pioneered at it's heart though, so have a listen:
