Spectrum, Dimmer supports announced

Friday 14th March, 2008 12:00PM

SPECTRUM, DIMMER AND SOME OF THE BEST NEW ZEALAND ACTS YOU’VE NEVER SEEN (YET)!

English underground music legend Sonic Boom lands in New Zealand next week for a series of Spectrum dates with Dimmer.

These shows bring together the talents of two of the most adventurous musical voyagers of our time in the form of Shayne Carter and Mr Boom himself, well known for heading way the fuck out there in his incarnations as Spacemen 3 leader, Spectrum and E.A.R., where he has collaborated with such likeminded individuals as Jason “Spaceman” Pierce (Spiritualized) and Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine).

And now we can announce the completion of the bills for these shows with some more of New Zealand’s most skillful extractors of oscillating, juddering, pulsing, squelching and all round skull-pounding sounds from instruments and machinery…

SIGNER performs in Wellington and Auckland
Mysterious mutant offspring of Bevan Smith's Aspen, Signer crafts dub-replicant grooves by grafting Aspen's distinctive spatial possibilities and organic textures onto the DNA blueprint of the Basic Channel Berlin techno-dub sound. Smith describes the sound as 'experiments in the movement of ambient music'. We say “waiter, there’s a bleep in my dub soup”.

KAHU performs in Wanaka, Dunedin and Christchurch
Guitarist Tristan Dingemans steps out from High Dependency Unit to take off from the HDU blueprint of densely rocking space particle shifting to unveil more textured guitar experimentation. Goes well with herbs.

DEAN ROBERTS performs at the Leigh Sawmill Café afternoon show
One of New Zealand’s most travelled, well-respected and little heard musicians, Dean Roberts (Thela, White Winged Moth) has shared the stage with many of the heavyweights of electrical/acoustic improvisation in Europe, the Americas and elsewhere. Dean has a new album out soon, his first in three years. Note this Sunday show at the Sawmil Café will run through the afternoon into the evening. Spicy sonic aromas guaranteed.

SORA SHIMA perform at the Kings Arms
Direct from Hamiltron, that unlikely source of instrumental space rock power jams, we’re psyched to announce the addition of the properly abstract, terrifyingly beautiful sound of Sora Shima to the KA bill. We can’t wait for you to see these guys play. Have you read our specials board?
