Christchurch-based singer-songwriters Lynette Diaz and Pete Love met at a songwriting course at CPIT in 2008 leading to friendship and continued collaboration. Lynette and Pete gave the Christchurch Folk Club a glimpse of their musical pairing in July 2008, opening for Rural Delivery. The concert will include several musical guests making for a really fun night with their brand of heart-driven, truth-filled original compositions to capture your imagination, and in the process, find your story woven into the patchwork of their words, as well as covers of their musical heroes.
Lynette Diaz sings with a fiery voice, likened to Joan Baez and Buffy Sainte-Marie, that she attributes to her Mexican-American roots. "Music comes through me, its a passion, its heart-filled, its fun, its intense and its all rooted in my upbringing around a hodgepodge of various styles." Lynette released her debut CD, "Lyrics In My Head" in late 2008. She returned to New Zealand in July 2009 after performing in the Seattle area of the United States.
Pete Love began songwriting in Timaru in the 80s, where he was collaboratively writing punk tunes with his first band. But his underlying drive was writing acoustic songs of self-reflection. Pete has performed as lead guitarist in various bands, most recently with Decoy Duck. For several months he has played host for the Acoustic Couch Series at The Loons in Lyttelton. "Most days I pick up my guitar and write. I find a certain meditative peace in songwriting. I get consumed in my thoughts, in the melody and then, when I come out of this state, find that Ive written something quite reflective with a spiritual twist."
