Weekly Roundup: Friday 6th September

Weekly Roundup: Friday 6th September

C.C. / Friday 6th September, 2019 3:59PM

While the dust settled on last weekend's multi-venue The Others Way 2019 festival (check out our photos from Friday night here), and a bunch of local musos and industry types looked like they desperately needed an extra night's sleep, the crucial music news kept rolling onwards like some kind of unfathomable force. Announcement highlights included Pōneke's Mermaidens are touring their brand new album Look Me In The Eye across Aotearoa in October, Southern California punks and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 soundtrack alumni Lagwagon are returning to our shores in March 2020, Melbourne metal maniacs King Parrot are storming our shores this summer for three eardrum-shattering headline events, Tui award winning songwriter Reb Fountain revealed she'll be touring extensively throughout NZ in October, Seattle songwriter Sneaky Bones is heading back our way this spring to tour his latest album Strangers I've Already Met, and local music icon Tiki Taane is playing a special One Man Band fundraiser show October, to help raise awareness of the issue of Kauri protection for future generations.

Sweden extreme metal figureheads Dark Funeral are bringing their aural blasphemy to Aotearoa for the first time ever next week, and our very own Fluffy communed with band leader and founding member Lord Ahriman via Skype, for an enlightening conversation delving into infernal depths you can read here. We also were psyched to premiere a pair of significant local releases and chat with each of the acts involved – a magical new video from Pōneke's Womb documenting their recent China tour with Strange Stains, and a self-created "home movie" for Ōtautahi bedroom-pop and lo-fi connoisseur Pickle Darling's song 'Rinse Spin Cycle / Nicholas Cage'.

Our Caught Live video for the week features Berlin-based polymath Mary Ocher, visiting Aotearoa for a special four date tour kicking off in Tāmaki Makaurau this coming Wednesday, with support from Strange Stains and Lucy Hunter for selected dates. Experience dazzling recent live footage of the musician, film maker and poet with Your Government performing 'To The Light' from 2017's The West Against the People, at Roter Salon, Berlin...
