The Leonard Simpson Duo Unveil Single 'GUILTY'

C.C. / Friday 24th January, 2020 10:32AM

Globe-spanning hip hop crew The Leonard Simpson Duo, the collaborative project of Aotearoa producer Leonard Charles (Jeremy Toy of She's So Rad) and Detroit MC Guilty Simpson, are back like a boomerang with the bumping third track revealed from their debut album L.S.D., dropping late next week. Premiered overnight via tastemakers Complex, new single 'GUILTY' is a summery smooth groover, with the US rapper dispensing off-the-dome reflections on family life and making dreams happen, over a bass-bin thumping electronic haze. Previous singles have seen the pair deploy sample snatches from the work of NZ musical figures Marlon Williams and Citizen Band – Leonard Charles shared his thoughts around the creative origins of 'GUILTY'...

"This beat came together really fast, I knew what to do with the sonics straight off the bat.

This is the closest a beat gets on the whole album to referencing some of my producer influences, the heads will know. I had Andy Morton a.k.a Submariner mix this track as I knew he would know how to treat it coming from a similar school of Hip Hop."

'L.S.D.' is out January 31st via Jakarta Records.
