Like many of us Aucklanders back in the office bleary-eyed but weirdly rejuvenated from our second lockdown experience, Aotearoa soul-pop crew Alae step into a fresh phase with their brand spanking seven track Lucy's Mix Tape. A musical lolly scramble featuring smooth as silk recent singles 'Hit Me Where It Hurts', 'Summer Thing' and 'Lucy', Lucy's Mix Tape also sports new tune 'Please', a song about take stock of things, channeling the steamy spirit of Prince at his slow jammiest — accompanied by an absolutely lush video directed by Mikee Carpinter filmed in the resplendent surrounds of The Civic theatre. Those tracks appear alongside a generous helping of reworks from the four-piece of Alex Farrell-Davey, Marika Hodgeson, Allister Davey and Jayden Lee, including a stripped back rendition of 'Please' showcasing a gorgeous vocal performance by Bailey Wiley.

Ahead of the band's release shows at Auckland’s Tuning Fork on Saturday 19th September and Wellington’s Meow on Saturday 10th October, Bailey Wiley enthused about working with Alae on their new collection: "In my eyes, Alae as a band are a divine fusion of musical goodness, so when I got the call to create a version of their song 'Please,' I jumped at the opportunity. The song itself really did all the hard work. I simply just sang my own version while consciously trying to stay true to the original. Accompanied by Alae's bass player Marika, it felt like a match made in heaven.”

'Lucy’s Mixtape' is available now through all digital streaming platforms.
