Weekly Round-Up: Friday 10th May

Weekly Round-Up: Friday 10th May

Friday 10th May, 2013 11:32AM

It's been a good week for tours with something for nearly everyone. Kicking off the week we had an announcement from Killing Joke, who added a Wellington date to their upcoming debut New Zealand tour, alt-pop artist James Blake announced his first visit to New Zealand, playing Auckland's Town Hall in July on the back of Splendour in The Grass, avant-garde Australian musician Kirin J Callinan announced nationwide dates in support of his new album Embracism and pop-princess Taylor Swift announced her return in November for one Auckland date. Then of course we had epic shows from Tool, check out live our photos here, and Swedish fuzz-maestros Truckfighters, check out our live photos of them here.

In other music news of note, this week we have been streaming Skeptics' brutally awesome album III for the first time as part of our Music Month feature on great New Zealand albums and we also kick started our other Music Month live video feature with footage of Julien Dyne at Cassette Nine.  Gruesome videos dominated the week with Queens of the Stone Age's dark animated clip 'I Appear Missing' starting things off,  then Yeah Yeah Yeahs' new one featuring a gross animated mosquito and David Bowie has caused quite a stir with his Pans Labyrinth-esque clip for  'The Next Day'.  And in WTF news, As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis has been arrested for allegedly plotting to murder his wife.

Caught live this week we have an awesome short documentary from the Red Bull Music Academy on iconic label DFA featuring it's founders - Jonathan Gaulkin (the mom) and James Murphy (the absentee Dad)  - and a number of the musicians asscoiated with the label (The Rapture, Yacht, The Juan Maclean, Holy Ghost!)...
