Join us at Firebird Cafe on Sunday Feb 1 for an afternoon of eclectic folk styles, ranging from country bluegrass to folk punk.
According to critics Bottom Bunk Club is an “acoustic quartet that merges the fast paced melodies of bluegrass with the fierce social commentary and f*** you persona of punk rock“
Imagine Woody Guthrie grew up listening to Green Day and Blink-182. Combining traditional bluegrass and folk instrumentation with lyrical content that dissects everything from covertly flirting with coworkers, bodily functions, and trickle-down economics, Bottom Bunk Club creates memorable melodies that the audience can’t resist singing along to.
Finalists for the 2023 Best Folk Artist Tūī | Te Kaipuoro Taketake Toa with their debut album 1931, Butter Wouldn’t Melt is known for their high energy and dynamic performances incorporating skillful musicianship, joyful harmonies and masterful songwriting. In 2025, their unique blend of americana, bluegrass and traditional music saw their sophomore album ‘Where the roots grow deep’ reach #3 on the Aotearoa album charts.
The band includes Andrea Reid (Vocals and rhythm guitar), Nick Burfield (Vocals and lead guitar), Cara Brasted (Fiddle and vocals), Marz Connelly (Double bass and vocals), and Michael Muggeridge (Mandolin and vocals).
Get ready for Butter Wouldn’t Melt to melt your heart as they gather around a single microphone, kicking dust up off the floor in a performance that can’t be missed.
