Suena Oro, a te reo Māori/Spanish fusion band from Whakatū/Nelson are bringing their psychedelic sonic experience to Valhalla on their ‘Te Heke Tō Taura Kōrari’ tour. Whakatu’s fertile music scene has been ignited by Suena Oro’s hypnotic extended jams that touch on folk, reggae, drone-music and other broad genres, all the while keeping experimentation, improvisation and taonga pūoro at the core.
Suena Oro’s original songs draw inspiration from tangata whenuatanga, a rich depth of Spanish heritage and many years of experience at the coalface of various musical forms. The songs are vehicles for political and humanist perspectives riding dance-orientated grooves. Kanikani mai!
Suena Oro will be supported at Valhalla by Whakatū-based live electronic artists Droneeater and Alvaro Moreno. Droneeater - aka Chris Mulholland - performs live te reo Māori dance orientated music. His 2025 single ‘Tō Wairua’ reached number #1 on Radioactive’s Top 11 Charts. Alvaro Moreno, alongside running the record label ‘Nelson Techno Collective’ that released Droneeater’s 2025 EP ‘Ngā Oro Rōria’, performs live techno-inspired music.
