Baile Funk was born in the streets of Rio de Janeiro as expression, resistance and celebration. It is not just a genre, it is a living culture shaped by sound, community and movement.

RIO FUNK was founded 13 years ago by Brazilians living in Aotearoa, creating a space to connect to home and keep that culture alive. Since then it has consistently sold out, becoming a reference point for Baile Funk in Aotearoa.

At its core, a baile is about the dancefloor. It is collective, physical and participatory. The energy does not sit with the DJ, it lives in the crowd. Movement leads, the bass guides and everyone becomes part of the experience. As the sound reaches wider audiences around the world, RIO FUNK stays grounded in its roots. The music, the DJs and the way the night unfolds reflect the culture it comes from.

What started as a space for Brazilians has grown into something bigger, welcoming a wider community without losing its identity. In a time where nightlife can feel curated and distant, this is about real connection, shared energy and being present in the moment.
