The Undercurrent presents Still Not Dead!
Still Not Dead is a sparkling new show from writer Rachel McAlpine (85) and musicians Andrew and Kirsten London (a bit younger). Together they celebrate, interrogate, and grumble about the weirdness of getting old.
Mixing poems and stories, McAlpine reflects on the pleasures and pitfalls of ageing with her trademark humour and honesty. Her monologues on language, lust, regrets, rewards and role models alternate with songs from the Londons. Since stepping into the limelight as a fearless and funny feminist poet in the 70s, McAlpine has written poems, novels and plays as well as an ongoing indie podcast, Learning How To Be Old.
Musical satirist Andrew London began writing, performing and recording his unique and quirky songs about 25 years ago; firstly with Wellington swing trio Hot Club Sandwich, then with his own Andrew London Trio.
From the terrors of aging to the triumph of finding the car keys, Still Not Dead tackles the realities of later life. Expect warmth, wit, and a possible tantrum.
