CUBA ST TAVERN PRESENTS: WINTER SERIES
Next up: Cian O'Donnell
Friday 28 August | Doors 7pm
The Winter Series rolls on, and this round we're pulling in a genuine legend of New Zealand music culture: DJ, broadcaster, record shop owner, promoter and traveller Cian O'Donnell, who's been playing quality tunes for local ears since the late 1980s. Come get your Friday knock-off drink on with him behind the decks.
Born in Hereford, England, O'Donnell's path to music was a familiar one—until landing in Wainuiomata in 1987 turned it into a life's work, and New Zealand into home. Since then, DJ Cian has earned a Gilles Peterson-style reputation for digging up the good stuff through his DJ sets and radio shows, his long-running Auckland club night The Turnaround, and behind the counter of the record shops he's called home, most famously Conch Records on Ponsonby Road.
Owner of one of Aotearoa's deepest record collections, Cian has built a reputation for sets that move effortlessly across genres. Whether he's playing to a packed dancefloor or a room full of mates, it's always about the next record - the one you didn't know you needed to hear.
Joining him is Jewel School, warming things up before Cian takes over for the evening.
Immersive lighting from @lighterxx, with sound powered by a custom Tubs Audio system.
