NEXT UP AT ĀTO // ALEX PIPES BAND
We’re bringing back a band that caused a little trouble the last time they rolled through Āto.
Alex Pipes returns for our 9th Private Gig of the 2026 Jazz Season — and if last year was anything to go by, this one is going to get very lively.
Think house grooves, funk, jazz, big hooks and deep improvisation, with tunes that can suddenly open up into full-blown fusion chaos before dropping back into something dark, dreamy and atmospheric.
Basically: you never quite know where the music is going next.
Alex pulls from a ridiculous mix of influences and somehow makes the whole thing sound completely fresh. Add four of Auckland’s finest alongside him and you've got one seriously heavyweight lineup.
THE LINEUP
Alex Pipes – Guitar
Andrew Isdale – Saxophone
Joe Kaptein – Keys
Wil Goodinson – Bass
Elijah Whyte – Drums
Last time they played Āto, the reviews were off the charts.
So if you missed it, this is your second chance.
And if you were there... well, you already know.
