Off the back of the release of their EP, Your Favourite (Particle Recordings), Beth Torrance and her band the Garden Party take to the road to play a headline show at Vogelmorn Upstairs. They'll be joined by Felix Bird and his band.
Beth Torrance is the penner of wry and disarming songs about connection to people and place - songs that feel like instant classics. Her music brings to mind the sensitivities and sensibilities of Snail Mail, the Beths, Fazerdaze, the Stone Roses and Pixies (artists to whom she's often compared).
The Garden Party are a taut, transcendent power trio, impressing all and sundry with their intoxicating slew of sublime hooks, bittersweet melodic sensibilities, sparkling and gritty guitars, and a rhythm section that kicks you in the teeth. They conjure the amphetamine ache of swingin' sixties art rock, the heady rush of early nineties fuzz pop, and-in their literary, heartbreak lyrics-the post-post-millennial ennui of right now.
Your Favourite EP has been received favourably by Aotearoa media such as 13th Floor, Under the Radar, NZ Musician, Empty Spaces, 95bFM (securing spot #2 with a bullet! on the bFM Top Ten) and student radio across the country.
Felix Bird is an Aotearoa alt-rock artist based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington, whose sound navigates between clever honesty and lush, sonic craftsmanship. Felix’s writing highlights the best parts of many genres, including folk, indie, and alternative adjacent, amalgamating them all into one auricular journey, which he dubs ‘Haircut’.
NOTE FROM VOGELMORN:
Vogelmorn Upstairs is not a wheelchair accessible building. There is an accessible bathroom in the space. This is an all ages venue but those under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a designated adult after 8pm. The Vogelmorn Precinct is a community space located in a residential area. With that in mind, the team ask that you be kind to others' and that when you leave the gig, you do so quietly to avoid disturbing our neighbours.
