Wellington dream-folk duo French for Rabbits, and nomadic songsmith Luckless are crossing paths on tour for one show at Lyttelton’s Tommy Changs on the eve of the Festival of Lights.
Dream-folk duo French for Rabbits have been quietly building a reputation for their sad yet brave songs. Since releasing their Tui nominated EP Claimed by the Sea in March 2012, they have gathered a dedicated fan-base around the globe with handwritten letters and home-assembled albums.
They are soon heading to Europe to swan about in France and perform shows in exotic places. So, in a four show tour they are wishing New Zealand “au revoir” and “see you soon”. The shows also celebrate the release of their new single Goat, which was premiered in late May on BBC 6 in the UK. It is the first new material from the duo since their 2012 EP. The slow-burning song is a lament on stubbornness and being sorry. It was recorded in Wellington’s Blue Barn studio with producer David Parker of Little Monster Studio with the stunning video created by film-photographer and first director Misma Andrews, and Ready! Steady Studio!
Luckless is fresh off one New Zealand tour, finding feet and friends in Lyttelton harbour and playing as much as her callused fingers can. With an armful of new songs and recording plans in the wings, this solo show on the night of the Lyttelton Festival Of Lights will be glowing with warmth, wine, and Tommy Changs' legendary food.
