OMAR vs MdCL - PRESS C OPY OMAR vs M dCL brings together two of the planet’s finest in a powerhouse two-man configuration - legendary UK soul singer OMAR and NZer by-way-of-the-world musician and live remixer MARK de CLIVE-LOWE. With Omar laying down his instantly recognizable soulful vocals and keys, while MdCL builds and layers dancefloor beats live on-the-fly juggling drum machine, keys and live sampling, it’s a mind boggling sight to see and absolute bliss to hear. Classic Omar joints, favorite covers and MdCL flavors, all flipped on the spot, performed and remixed live in real time. Soul pioneer Omar is a bonafide legend - cited as a favorite by non other than D’Angelo, Erykah Badu and the original soul man himself - Stevie Wonder. He’s credited with creating Neo-Soul and has influenced everyone from Maxwell to The Roots. Gilles Peterson championed Omar early in his career with the timeless hit “There’s Nothing Like This” and since then he’s collaborated with Common, Badu, D’Angelo, Syreeta Wright, Rodney P and of course, Stevie Wonder who went on record saying, “When I grow up I wanna be like Omar.” He was awarded an MBE for services to the British Music Industry and is currently celebrating his 8th studio album “Love in Beats” which also features Robert Glasper and UK rapper Ty. Mark de Clive-Lowe has taken his music far and wide since growing up in Auckland - his decade at the epicenter of the UK’s broken beat movement saw the keys master collaborate with not only the formative West London producers 4Hero, Bugz in the Attic, Restless Soul and IG Culture, but also the likes of Pino Palladino, techno producer Dave Angel and even Goldie’s Metalheadz label in collaboration with Nathan Haines and Lemon D. He lent his skills to US club music dons Francois K, DJ Spinna and Waajeed and now, nine years deep based in Los Angeles, has collaborated there with Sheila E, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Chris Daddy Dave, Harvey Mason and more. He’s taken his acclaimed jazz-meets-the-dancefloor party CHURCH worldwide and is currently working on album number 14. “An underground phenom... – Okayplayer Omar and MdCL’s connection began with MdCL remixing “Your Mess” from Omar’s 2006 album “Sing If You Want It”. Omar returned the favor with a feature on MdCL’s 2012 album “Renegades” - the underground club classic “Get Started” (also featuring long-time Prince-associate Sheila E on percussion) and it was only a matter of time before the two joined each other on the live stage. O MAR vs M dCL debuted in 2016 in Madrid and Barcelona and the duo followed up with 2017 performances in Amsterdam and the Canary Islands. Together, these two modern day legends have created one of the most unique and dynamic two-man shows to hit a stage anywhere . A treat for soul heads dancefloor movers and music lovers alike
