The rejuvenated Captain Cook tavern hosts the best Dunedin band never to have graced its stage: the Dead C. The Port Chalmers trio have been plugging in since 1987. Now with 35 or so albums under their belts, they are looking to a new LP this year on Ba Da Bing, entitled 'Rare Ravers', as well as a seven date Scandinavian tour in June, winding up in Helsinki at the Sideways Festival. What better warm up for the fjords than a gig at the Cook? Imagine chasing the Yorkshire circumnavigator through the bloody shallows of Kealakekua Bay - war club upraised - 'Bad Politics' running through your head. He's one dead palangi.
Remember what John Peel said about the Fall: 'always different, always the same'? That's the Dead C too. Support will be provided by local upstarts Bad Sav, what more can you ask for, the Bad and the Dead on one great bill?
