Gig Information

The Muddy Mama Blues Band live and bluesy – seasoned with jazz. Tinged with the bluesy hue of song, revelling in the diverse, a bit of the unexpected, sustained by the much loved and familiar. A concert based on musical partnerships.

Judi Smitheram doesn’t merely sing about love and loss, it is a heart-felt, sultry, her performance gifted with genuine emotion, where her vocal power and obvious love of performing shine. In collaboration with Mary Ruston, the dramatic doyenne of the piano bringing tones from the keys that are a dream to listen to, where you can relax sit back and enjoy because without doubt Mary has those notes mastered.

Complimented by soaring saxophone soundscapes created by Geoff Low, whose first love was jazz. He has been playing wind instruments since he was seven and is long-time friends with the recorder, saxophone and clarinet. Melanie Ross plays those bass strings like they were made to, swinging between beefy sounds contrasting with song like qualities. The versatility of drummer Lynden Jackson is without doubt, he is consistently listenable, can add the intensity when needed and ultimately providing the dance beat for you to enjoy. Talented blues harp player Ken Jenkins will be adding that wavering groove that soars to add those juicy dynamics. The band holds down a smouldering groove behind Judi’s sultry, bluesy voice and passionate stage presence.

You are invited to lose yourself in some wondrous blues and jazz rhythms, the aim is simple: great music, great fun. Join us for this concert designed to showcase talents and the love of song in a sincere spirit of musical expression.
