Hunger / Cookie Brooklyn & the Crumbs / Warwick & the W****rs

Hunger (Berlin)
Cookie Brooklyn & the Crumbs (7” single release)
Warwick & the W****rs

Described as ‘DIY Disco’ or ‘cranky synth punk-pop’, Berlin duo Hunger play their first show in New Zealand on 8 March at Wellington’s Caroline. Joining them are locals Cookie Brooklyn & the Crumbs who will launch their brand new 7” single “Is there Logic in Pop” Also on the bill, Warwick and the W*nk*s!

Hunger is the project of Jörg Hochapfel aka No Nu Yoerk (keyboards, singing, violin, tambourine) & Christoph Rothmeier (drums, singing, turntables, electronics). Based in Berlin, Hunger’s songs feature Hochapfel playing several organs simultaneously, Rothmeier slugging it out on the drums (and occasional sample), with both handling vocals and occasional other chores (violin, trumpet). This is Hunger’s first visit to New Zealand. Says Hunger’s Christoph Rothmeier: NZs ears wishes for a musical unicorn, and Hunger will bring them a proper weener dog .... or the other way round”

Cookie Brooklyn & the Crumbs will be launching their brand new 7” single “Is there Logic in Pop / Puff of Air”. Featuring members of Orchestra of Spheres and MarineVille, the Crumbs are a self-described beatnik post-pop/ post-punk combo, their new single “Is there Logic in Pop” intersects Nell Thomas and Erika Grant’s groove with guitarist Mark Williams’ no wave guitar, and lyrics taken from an interview with pop artist Mayo Thompson. “Is there Logic in Pop” is released on Wellington label Epic Sweep, with three different covers designed by Callum Devlin.

The Crumbs duo of Nell Thomas and Erika Grant first saw Hunger during a European tour with their other group, Orchestra of Spheres in 2011. Says Thomas - “We played with them on on a large boat called SS Stubnitz in northernmost Germany and were immediately taken by their festive spirit, their insouciant wit, their predilection for Fisherman’s Friend Vodka shandies”.

Also part of the evenings entertainment is Warwick and the W**ke*s, the one man band project of Warwick Donald, who channels the spirit of RL Burnside and Hasil Adkins by simultaneously playing drums, guitar, harmonica and voice.
