Feildings Best Dancers (Feilding)
They are from Feilding. They dance. That second one is a lie, there's only two of them so they can't dance very much - they're taking applications for back up dancers for smakaz though, so sign up, whānau!

Sick Old Man (Auckland)
A four piece Auckland band delivering the crust! very loudly... hair to human ratio is questionable but we're pretty sure they're at least 35% Markhor.

Amanaki (Auckland)
Look a hardcore band! They're making a name for themselves, and if they get any better, nzhc won't be able to claim them anymore so let's make the most of em while we still got em!

Hagseed (Auckland)
These women are coming to bring the grunge/punk - a favourite for many from Smakaz 2018 - they're also going to inevitably intimidate us all because we are not worthy.

Xile (Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland)
NO PADS, NO HELMETS, NO SHIRTS, JUST BREAKDOWNS AND BARKING AND MORE BREAKDOWNS, WITH LIMBS IN THE PIT IN ALL SORTS OF UNEXPECTED PLACES, FOLLOWED BY MORE BARKING, AND YOU BEST BELIEVE THAT WE WILL BE TAKING BETS ON WHICH MOSHER IS WORKING THROUGH A FULL-BLOWN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS.

DOGCOCK (Kirikiriroa/ Hamilton)
Don’t know how best to describe our local grindcore babes than in the words of the Tāmaki Makaurau punk label, Hairy Palm: “Hamilton has a knack for spitting out bands with ridiculous names that make evil f**king rackets and DOGCOCK is no exception”.

Happy Valley (Te Whanganui-a-Tara/ Wellington & Waikato)
This band has dropped their first EP earlier this year. Happy Valley will serve up some of that sweet, sweet post-hardcore screamo stuff for all the bebo emos of yesteryear.

BULK BOGAN (Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland)
You haven’t heard real Powerviolence until you check out this duo and find yourself saying “wait? Was that song actually 2 seconds long?

Spiteful Urinator (Kirikiriroa/ Hamilton)
Tried to make a haiku and failed. So instead, here is a poem about this Kirikiriroa treasure.
Is Baphomet on vox?
shit, a second vocalist
I am so scared

ColdxWar (Te Whanganui-a-Tara/ Wellington)
This band is one to look out for. Heavier than the crushing weight of the impending climate catastrophe and tighter than a boomer being asked to meet legal obligations under tenancy law. ColdxWar makes dope music and they're gonna get a lot of folk picking up/chucking coins and starting up lawn-mowers in the pit.

Bridge Burner (Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland)
Many of us wondered when NCEA English would come in handy in our adult life. When reading Bridge Burners lyrics is the answer, cause hot damn there’s a lot to unpack there and if this band was a Mean Girls character they'd be Janis.

Exit Fear (Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland)
Some good old hardcore punk- the kind that is in your face and unforgivingly loud - much like that sudden shock of feeling you have when a cat claws ur nips like the unapologetic, but fun and cute little asshole it is. One that you cannot help but love.

Lookin Up (Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland)
Lookin Up have come a long, long ass way from their humble beginnings in the Aotearoa hardcore scene. Moving to a more melodic punk rock sound with heavy riffs paying homage to their roots. For many of the OG fans, it’ll be a brand new Lookin Up stepping on stage this year. So here’s to one more Smakaz set for old times’ sake, let’s all get sentimental and maybe ugly cry - up to you, whatever.
