Aro Bar is excited to be showcasing local bands from around the region, as part of Wellington Eat Drink Play this May ?

Join us for a fun Sunday afternoon and let us entertain you!!!

Let GiGi Genie soothe, charm and heal you with tender lyrics, delicate melodies and soaring crescendos as we explore our relationship with nature, being human and the cosmos through soul sound.

Lainey grew up with her virtuoso family in Oamaru and has been writing music for as long as she can remember. Her honest and vulnerable sound is the quintessential remedy for every emotion, offering insight into her life through the medium of music. You can empathise and relate to Lainey’s charismatic presence through her intertwined sound influenced by indie, folk and pop. Her dainty voice complements her descriptive writing, and with the combined warmth of the instrumental, her songs make you feel like you're sitting in an enchanted garden.

Soda begun as a three piece power pop band in Melbourne Australia, 1997.
What started out as a bit of weekend fun turned into a “go see” band that played uni gigs and all the popular venues of the day.
Soda was described as short and sweet, fast and catchy, think bands like Spiderbait and Regurgitator and a bit of The Presidents of the United States.
This went on for two years and due to family commitments Soda was put in a safe place and re-animated in 2020.
With a new line up Soda is now based in Wellington NZ and recently re-issued their debut EP “Pan”.
Now a four piece, Soda is returning to the studio to record their second album “1997” which will be released late march 2021.

Too country for the folk crowd, too folky for the rock crowd, too rocky for the country crowd. Don is a songwriter and performer, based in Wellington, New Zealand. He plays solo and is also a member of the bands Scattered Wreckage, The Brooklyns and The Thornberries.

Sweetspot is a talented Pōneke band that was assembled in 2020, not long after the first lockdown. Lead Singer and Rhythm Guitarist Philip Kim, Lead Guitarist Cameron Halberg, Drummer Joe Andrew, and Bassist Alana Hauraki all met when they decided to share a singular flamingo scooter on the waterfront. They decided this qualified them to form a band and thus combined their very diverse musical influences together to create their funky, fun, psychedelic, sound which got them a slot in Wellingtons own CubaDupa festival. They are currently working on 3 tantalising EPs that are a cohesive concept to do with the night time, with singles such as Self Medicate and Dear Night coming out later this year through Dosada Records.
