Enduring materials, beaten, hollowed, carved, and polished to sing songs of the past and breathe life into the future. This is music of, and for, Aotearoa.
A special pre-Festival event. Savour this special pre-festival treat in SILVER. STONE. WOOD. BONE. — a feast for eyes and ears!
Western flutes and traditional Māori instruments come together when Bridget Douglas, principal flute in the NZSO, joins renowned taonga pūoro researcher and artist Alistair Fraser, weaving together a tapestry of haunting music.
These magical sounds are set against the striking backdrop of a specially commissioned video work by visual artist Bridget Reweti (Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāi Te Rangi), illustrating Aotearoa’s unique landscapes that have shaped the sounds of taonga pūoro.
