Sweet Bottom is the love child of cult old-time fiddlers Kat Mear and Flora Knight. These two carry their love and curiosity of American music through every tune they play. You’ll hear this in their coarse but also sweet archaic harmonies, blended over thumping guitar and driving old time fiddle tunes. Their 2022 debut release ‘Sweet Bottom Takes You To The Sugar Shack’ chronicles Kat and Flora's journey across America. This pilgrimage saw them healing their hearts and reaching their ultimate destination, where they retrieved a handmade fiddle from deep in the Appalachian Mountains. This EP was recorded in Memphis, Tennessee at the legendary ‘Sun Studio’,famous for churning out the most influential of America’s recording artists. Sweet Bottom tip their hats to the roots of the music that Sun fostered by throwing down this EP of mountain fiddle tunes from the Ozarks and the Appalachians respectively.
Jessie shanks - Having traversed the countryside for the last fifteen years in New Zealand’s hardest working band The Eastern, Jessie Shanks is a renowned guitar picking, banjo frailing, foot stomper with a sweet southern voice and a raft of songs built from years on the road. Shanks has cultivated her own unique approach to roots music, performing haunting contemporary folk tunes steeped in time and place and woven from her countless travels.
