The Circus is Closed - Yann Le Dorré, Album Release Gig @ 216 Cuba - Support from Japes & George Turner

Join us at 216 Dive Bar on Cuba street for an evening of music and projections.

‘A flickering TV illuminates the unmade bed and empty bottles as the swollen sun rises too soon. There weren't any dreams tonight because we never went to sleep. Somehow I got lost on my way to god and then found out there wasn’t any good after all.’

With support from Pōneke based songwriters George Turner and Japes, Yann Le Dorré will be performing songs from his forthcoming album ‘The Circus is Closed’.

Stark and indifferent, 'The Circus is Closed' is a division in time for those broken by dreams and whose hearts have finally turned to stone from one too many mournings. Recorded in your mothers garage in October 2022, the album finds its feels in the earnest stylings of somber country and outsider folk music. Littered with lyrical musings on a cynical existence, 'The Circus is Closed' is an album for not how we should go on but why.

Yann Le Dorré is a folk musician based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. He sings saturnine songs for modern times and the stars too high in the sky. Drawing from 70’s singer- songwriters, outlaw country legends and 90’s grunge acts, he writes for the divorcees and drunkards in a series of acoustic reports from the rain-drenched capital.
Known for his work with Pōnekes gutter folk band YOLK, Le Dorré is now embarking on his journey as a solo artist under his own namesake.
2023 has seen him release his debut single & video ‘Missed’, a piano man's lament to our very own Courtney Place and perform at the capital's beloved Newtown Fest.

Japes is the alias of Pōneke based songwriter, producer and DJ Mia Kelly. With elements of indie rock and electronica, they meld together all that they hold dear to offer you oozing thoughtful songs.
