Gig Information

Nestled in the rolling Te Awanga hills of Te Matau-a-Māui / Hawke’s Bay, Outfield is a one day, family friendly event — a world class independent festival with a distinctive local vibe. 2024 marks the milestone of five years since its inception.

Since the first excursion out into the field, in early 2020, the Outfield community has blossomed, forging relationships between creatives that last long beyond the day itself. The next festival honours this, taking connection as its unifying theme. Tucked away in the shade of the cape, people of all ages and backgrounds, flavours and persuasions will come together to make new and beautiful memories.

Outfield is a celebration of Music, Food and Art, with a wide range of offerings to suit every taste, across three stages and numerous places for children of all ages to play.

The main stage opens out onto the cricket field that gives the festival its name, creating an arena vibe. Through the magical forest, the Art Valley stage offers a more intimate, offbeat musical experience. And in between, the Dance Yard is a bespoke space to shake loose to the finest electronic sounds around.

The 2024 edition of the festival is bursting with an eclectic mix of more than 25 exceptional performers and rising stars. Headline acts such as Troy Kingi, Tiny Ruins, David Dallas, and Rum Jungle, share the stage with newcomers Te Whānau Puoro, Uncle Les and Molly Pawson as well as local favourite Joe Cole, giving you the chance to hear your new favourite band. While fans of electronic music, can expect to dance to the grooves of Flamingo Pier, Amandamania, Beccie B and bass music heads are treated to internationally renowned Trei, alongside the likes of Kenzo and Ludus.

Festival goers are promised a delight for the eyes and the mind, the product of community artistic endeavour, founded on a grounding of inclusion, creating an immersive experience unique to Outfield. Led by artistic director, Sophie Watkins established artists such as Bernie Winkels, works alongside emerging ones, like Ratima Munro (Kahungunu, Rongomaiwahine).

No festival would be complete without food! Outfield highlights the best of Hawke’s Bay’s street-style fare, with an array of mouth-watering options. From savoury to sweet, theres a tantalising treat to satisfy every palate, making the festival a deliciously diverse gastronomic experience.

Outfield strives to provide a world class festival experience, to ignite creative passions in an inclusive environment, with a focus on nurturing ideas through sustainable practices, caring for the land, the artists who create it and the people lucky enough to enjoy it.
