Gig Information

As part of Creeps Record Parlour's Record Store Day festivities Living Clipboards are releasing their new album across the road here at Moon!

Living Clipboards is a 3 piece band from New Zealand featuring Mark Williams (Cookie Brooklyn and the Crumbs, MarineVille), Denise Roughan (3Ds, LBGP, Ghost Club, MarineVille,) and Jim Abbott (Ghost Club).

'All Over Tawa' is a collection of 9 songs veering between languid pop (Clouds) and petulant snarl (Teenage Retreat). The basic tracks for the album were recorded in the bands practice room using a digital recorder rented from the Wellington public library. Due to the band members reading the manual incorrectly, the resulting recordings vary from pristine to lo-fi to scorched earth. Shortly after recording, Jim and Denise left town for Dunedin and Mark edited, stitched and salvaged the tracks together into workable tracks. Over distance Living Clipboards completed overdubs to give the album a fuller pop sound, including a surprise appearance by Dunedin’s Leith Valley Brass Band, posthumously added to a live recording from Zelle Fest 2021. The album was subsequently mixed and mastered by Tex Houston.

Lyrically, ‘All Over Tawa’ finds the band deep in the suburbs; re-purposing conversation from internet chat boards into a song about neighbours at war (Off My Chest); finding signs of the avant-garde at the corner dairy (Tawa Golden Night), to the smell of rain (Petrichor) and the true story of a painter-ape at Wellington Zoo (Jessie). For Teenage Retreat the band asked 9 year old Alfie Williams to rewrite a real estate advertisement from the perspective of a house. The album artwork and music videos continue the lyric theme of the suburbs, with photos mostly taken at night around the streets of Tawa and South Dunedin.

Originally with no ambition to record or play live, Living Clipboards are now releasing 'All Over Tawa' on vinyl/digital via Burning Log in a limited edition of 100 worldwide. What’s more, the band will play a celebratory launch at Moon in Wellington on Saturday 20 April 2024 (Record Store Day). Pre-orders of the LP are available via burninglogrecords.bandcamp.com and come with a digital download, which can also be purchased separately.

Living Clipboards make no guarantee that each show and this release may be their last so don't miss out!

Living Clipboards will be supported by Maiden Name with a solo set from Louis TM in between at Creeps.
