Toby Sussex is an indie folk-pop singer-songwriter based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Originally from Whakatū-Nelson, Toby moved up to pursue music at Massey University in 2021. Most recently, he released his debut EP, Weather Dependent, on 24th May to an exciting response - Toby is stoked to return home to celebrate this at The Boathouse. Fellow top-of-the-south singer-songwriter turned Wellingtonian, Lucy Summerfield, joins Toby for this evening of original music. Lucy and Toby also worked together to produce her latest gem of a single, Fruit Tea, in 2023.
Over recent years, Toby has found himself performing solo at a range of festivals and venues around the Wellington and Nelson regions, including Newtown Festival, WCC Gardens Magic, Songwriters Showcase at Moon, Serene Sounds at 216 Cuba, Taste Tasman, Tahuna Summer Sounds and Winter Vibes festival. When performing live, Toby’s heartfelt, melodic vocals fuel a carefully crafted acoustic and live-looped signature sound.
In April 2024, Toby released Feel Better, the intimate and soulful first single from Weather Dependent. To some notable excitement, following shortly after came the upbeat and existential second single, Life Slips. Both of these songs have been playlisted across radio stations around the motu - Life Slips even held a spot on the Student Radio Network’s top 10 charts.
Weather Dependent was released on 24th May and features four unique and thoroughly road-tested songs - home-grown, folk-fuelled, and ready for your ears. Join us at The Boathouse for a night of great music and wholesome vibes!
Doors at 6:30pm, music from 7pm.
