Theatrical avant-pop mystics Birdfeeder have a new song to share and invite you to come celebrate.
Birdfeeder are one of Wellington's hidden gems, with roots in the city’s underground music and theatre scenes. Performing with almost psychic synchronicity, their songs are hypnotic and riddled with ear worms, with a focus on vivid lyrical storytelling. Core members Stephanie Cairns (keys/lead vocals and songwriting), Josh Harris (drums) and Marley Mokomoko-Young (bass) are joined live by Jasmine Toynbee on backing vocals and percussion.
Their new single Castle marks the start of a new era of music making for Birdfeeder, whose last release was The Vile Isle EP in 2022. It’s also their first release on local label Home Alone Music, and is accompanied by a music video directed by Theo Taylor.
re:ruby make melodic noise-folk. Formed in 2023, the five-piece intertwine their intricate passages with tension, chaos, and lyrics about mothman. re:ruby’s album ‘Unearthed & Obsolete: Recordings from the Akai GX-4000db’ was released on Home Alone Music on 2023.
Dreamtone create expressive and dynamic music in a genre of their own making that they've shruggingly dubbed "psychedelic dream pop with some jazz, shoegaze and other stuff in it". It's calming yet builds into chaotic and ecstatic crescendos that will shake your bones and your spirit.
