Tāmaki Makaurau's Goth Night returns to Ding Dong Lounge this January, offering an atmospheric evening of dark music and community. Taking over both levels of the venue, the event features live performances upstairs at Dead Witch and DJs in the main bar, delivering a soundtrack of goth rock, post-punk, and darkwave sounds. Goth Night has become a cornerstone for fans of the underground, providing a space for connection and shared appreciation of alternative culture.
Headlining the evening is Sounds Like Winter, a post-punk band from Sydney known for their dynamic sound, which blends loping basslines, sharp guitars, and tribal rhythms. The band addresses the absurdities of modern life with a distinctive musical approach, offering a fresh take on the goth and post-punk genres. This performance marks a special stop on the band’s tour, just before they take the stage at Gathering Shadows 2025 in Wellington the following night.
Joining the lineup is Robots in Love, an industrial cyber rock powerhouse from Ōtepoti Dunedin. Their intense, genre-blurring tracks bring a unique energy to the night, with a sound crafted by seasoned producers and performers Elenor Rayner, Alex Burchell, and Tony Lumsden. Known for their explosive live performances, Robots in Love are sure to charm the audience. They will also perform at Gathering Shadows 2025 in Wellington the following night.
The night will also feature an impressive lineup of DJs to keep the energy brooding and intense. DJs Passion Crypt, Gravedigger, The Doctor, Ravebat, Gaga Exterminator, and Twinkubus will spin a mix of classic and underground tracks spanning goth, post-punk, and industrial genres. With two levels of music and a carefully curated lineup, the event promises a memorable journey through the darker side of sound.
