More about Ali Affleck:
Hailed as “Scotland’s Queen of Vintage Jazz & Blues” (OCWeekly), vocalist and jazz historian Ali Affleck is internationally renowned for her passionate, authentic take on early jazz, swing, and prohibition-era blues. Winner of Best Jazz Vocalist at the 2014 Scottish Jazz Awards (where she was also nominated Best Emerging Artist), she went on to receive further nominations in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
After settling for many years in New Orleans—the birthplace of jazz—Ali immersed herself in its traditions, lending rare authority to her soulful, unpretentious performances. BBC JazzHouse praised, “No other singer can deliver with such authenticity and as swingingly as Ali.” Bill Bailey calls her “bloody marvellous,” while Edinb49 hails her shows as “a masterclass in grassroots jazz.”
A champion of forgotten jazz pioneers and heroines, Ali breathes new life into vintage gems. At Wellington Jazz Festival 2025, she brings two electrifying shows to legendary venue Meow.
